Preparation is one of the most important ways you can make sure your next camping trip is a positive experience. And even though disconnecting from our hectic daily routines and materialistic lifestyles is part of the appeal of camping, bringing along a few modern comforts is still a good idea for most. Here are a few items that we recommend bringing along next time you and the family goes camping.
Bringing along a couple good reads (and maybe even a movie or two on your tablet) is a good way to help the kids survive the road trip if you’re coming from a long way out. It’s also not a bad way to relax out in the sun, to be honest.
The hot dogs and the marshmallows go without saying, but don’t forget to bring plenty of snacks and hydrating drinks, especially if you’re camping with children.
3. A Smartphone.
It might seem contrary to the camping spirit, but a phone can help make you safer — and, if you’re into apps, you’ll be happy to have your smartphone and this handy list of the top 20 camping apps for Apple and Android.
4. Repellant + Sunscreen.
Safety first. You don’t want to come home with a sunburn and a bunch of mosquito bites!
5. Safety Gear.
Many camping sites (Saco River included) offer fun rentals such as cycles and kayaks. Although helmets and life jackets are often included in such deals, you may wish to bring along your own safety gear as well. Most experts recommend bringing along a first aid kit as well whenever heading into the great outdoors: though you will likely never need it, it´s always better to be safe than sorry.
6. Sleeping Bags.
Finding sleeping bags with the appropriate temperature recommendation is a must: there’s nothing worse than sweating through a 60 degree night in an arctic sleeping bag!
